Reports emerging from the northern part of Nigeria have it that 300 schoolgirls have been kidnapped by gunmen in Zamfara State.
The abduction of the schoolgirls, it was learnt, occurred in the early hours of Friday at Government Secondary, Jangebe, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the State.
The abduction of the Zamafara schoolgirls is coming just days after bandits attacked and abducted students of Government Science College, Karaga, Niger State, leaving one student dead.
The activities of terrorists, now addressed as bandits or gunmen, have been widely condemned by Nigerians in various quarters, although there are some public office holders and clerics who have continued to drum support for the terrorists despite their heinous crimes.
Recall that Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, last week stated that not all bandits are criminals. The statement came barely a month after he granted amnesty to seven ‘repentant’ bandits.

In the same vein, popular Islamic cleric, Sheik Gumi, who had been mediating between the government and bandits, called on the Federal Government to grant the terrorists blanket amnesty. This statement also came before he openly also claimed that bandits are not criminals.
Meanwhile, this latest development is the fourth school abduction under the current administration.
It was further learnt that the abduction of the Kagara student saw the government cough out a whopping 800 million Naira to secure the release of the student. This drew wide criticism from Nigerians who claimed that kidnapping is a new trend created by government officials to loot the treasury of the country.
They further knocked the Federal Government for refusing to reach an agreement with ASUU, forcing them to a nine-month strike that crippled academic activities but were quick to pay almost a billion Naira in about 72 hours to terrorists.
Although the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, denied the positions held by Nigerians.
