The Imo State Roads Maintenance Agency (IROMA), the state’s counterpart of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has stepped up its efforts to improve road infrastructure across the State.
In recent weeks, the Agency has been actively engaged in desilting drainages and patching potholes on major roads, ensuring smoother traffic flow and reduced flooding during the rainy season. Despite working with limited resources, IROMA has continued to deliver on its mandate of keeping Imo roads safe and motorable.
In addition to these maintenance works, the Agency has embarked on a recovery exercise to retrieve state-owned road construction machines that had been scattered and abandoned across various locations in the State. According to the Chairman of IROMA, Hon. Barr. Kingsley Ononuju, almost all of the machines have now been successfully recovered and moved to the Agency’s office at the Ahiajoku Center, where repair works are ongoing to restore them to full functionality.
This initiative comes as the State awaits the delivery of brand-new machines and equipment, which will further boost IROMA’s capacity. “Once the new equipment arrives, IROMA will be positioned to compete favorably with any road construction outfit in the country,” Ononuju said.
He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to actualizing Governor Hope Uzodimma’s vision of zero tolerance for potholes in Imo State. “Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Uzodimma, and with the support of Ndi Imo, we are determined to ensure that our roads remain among the best in the country,” the Chairman added.
With these efforts, IROMA is set to play a central role in sustaining the administration’s drive for durable road infrastructure and improved urban aesthetics across Imo State.
